Our mission is to provide outpatient counseling services for an individual, a couple, or a family in which one member is suffering from a substance use disorder. We ascribe to the therapeutic relationship approach and are guided by an innovative methodology that explores the underlying causes of addiction and lifestyle changes needed to defeat substance use and/or prevent relapse. This provides a solid foundation for the journey of long term substance use recovery through a client’s discovery of an authentic, sober self.
Philosophy
Our philosophy revolves around these core principles, the underlying causes that lead to substance abuse:
Grief, Abuse, Abandonment.
Substance abuse is a disease of the soul that cannot let go of past events and / or the feeling of being abnormal or unworthy. This results in “Why is this happening to me?” Thus, the beginning stage of self-centered emotions and fear implants itself into the powerlessness to ask for help. The unwillingness to confront his/her substance use, to accept support and empathy, and to reveal argumentative characteristics of denial leads to refusal in giving up the abuse of substances. The work of deflating a client’s ego and arrogance through an empathetic therapeutic alliance promotes self-revelation. It is through this humbleness of spirit and the willingness to admit life has become out of control by his/her own choices that healing can begin. Thus, recognition of not being alone and being able to ask for help when life becomes unmanageable becomes part of the client’s new framework on living.
